Capabilities
BLP's clients seek the profitable evolution of their conventional industrial businesses and investments to thrive in a sustainability oriented global economy.
Heavy industries in commodity markets are often several steps removed from the end user along the value-chain. As such, consumer trends can take time to provide price signals significant and durable enough to impact long-range capital investments. Sustainability is now a globally established theme across consumer markets, and regulatory structures are increasingly based on life-cycle impact assessment informed by a more comprehensive view of direct, indirect, and embedded GHG emissions. Many existing and emerging market-based regulations are designed to produce both incentive and disincentive price signals. BLP is uniquely capable of identifying intersectionality of durable market trends and regulatory incentives to identify and develop optimal projects and ESG investments.
The long-term nature of capital projects make the adoption of new technologies, strategies, and approaches difficult to justify. With an integrated analysis of the risks of technology, markets, and regulations, BLP helps its clients develop robust investment and risk mitigation plans. Once quantified, risks can be allocated and contained via regulatory positioning, commercial/strategic partnerships, and other means.
A key element of sustainable projects and investments is novel technology. Many industrial technologies have matured, but profitable deployment of these systems and approaches requires a carefully integrated approach. BLP brings deep knowledge of a range of technologies and has the multidisciplinary capacity to quantify the scientific, engineering, and operational blindspots associated with new technologies and integration approaches.
New industrial technologies are generally developed with an intended application / scale / scope in mind. Often, the realities of commodity markets, physical value chains and existing infrastructure challenge viability in the intended applications. BLP combines its rich experience across industries, first of a kind deployments, and capital projects to ensure that the appropriate applications, scale, and scope are defined. Specific expertise in techno-economic analysis combined with project financing enable BLP to evaluate and develop bespoke capital formation (including grants, loan guarantees, insurance) wherein technology risk can be quantified, managed, and allocated.
